Shamil Translation provides professional legal translation for contracts, court documents, powers of attorney, corporate records, arbitration materials and other legally significant documents.
From our Riyadh office, we handle Arabic-to-English and English-to-Arabic legal translation for individuals, companies, legal departments and professional advisers. Send the document first so we can review the scope, price, turnaround and any certification requirements before work begins.
Legal translation can involve a single document or an entire matter containing related files. The document type, language pair, intended use and certification requirement should be established before the work begins.
Professional legal translation can cover court and litigation documents, contracts and agreements, powers of attorney, corporate legal documents, arbitration materials and legal correspondence.
Judgments, pleadings, statements, evidence, exhibits, expert reports and supporting correspondence.
Commercial contracts, service agreements, NDAs, shareholder agreements, joint ventures and amendments.
POAs containing identity details, powers granted, restrictions, dates and authentication markings.
Articles of Association, board resolutions, shareholder resolutions, corporate records and transaction files.
Claims, responses, witness statements, expert reports, exhibits, contracts and awards.
Notices, letters, supporting schedules, annexes, certificates and related legal documentation.
A legal document may depend on the exact relationship between clauses, defined terms, parties, dates, amounts, schedules, annexes and references elsewhere in the document.
A contract may define “Effective Date” once and use that term throughout dozens of later provisions. A judgment may contain case numbers, names of parties, monetary awards and references to exhibits. A power of attorney may depend on the precise scope of authority granted to an agent.
The translation therefore has to be considered as a document, not simply as a collection of sentences.
Someone who understands both languages may be able to explain the general meaning of a document, but that is different from preparing a professional translation for legal or official use.
Professional handling may require: consistent legal terminology, complete reproduction of the source, careful treatment of names and figures, preservation of document structure, and certification where the receiving authority requires it.
Start with the complete document. Tell us the source and target languages and where the translation will be used. We can then review the scope, price, turnaround and any formal requirements.
Court documents demand careful control of factual details. Names of claimants and defendants should remain consistent. Case and exhibit numbers must be reproduced correctly. Dates, monetary amounts, currencies and legal references need to be checked against the source.

For proceedings governed by Saudi Arabia's Law of Civil Procedure (Law of Procedure before Sharia Courts), Arabic is the official language of the courts. Article 23 also states that foreign-language documents submitted to the court must be accompanied by a certified Arabic translation from a licensed office. However, requirements should still be checked against the particular proceeding and receiving authority. Therefore, tell us where the document will be submitted when requesting a quotation.
Visible stamps, seals, signatures and annotations should be appropriately reflected so the reader can see that they exist in the source. Unreadable content should not be guessed.
Contracts depend heavily on internal consistency. A translator needs to follow the relationship between definitions, operative clauses, schedules, annexes and amendments rather than translating each paragraph independently.
For example, if ‘Effective Date’ is defined once and used another 30 times, its translated equivalent should remain consistent unless the context genuinely requires otherwise. Otherwise, even fluent wording can create inconsistency when a defined term changes from clause to clause.
Machine translation can help someone understand the general meaning of text. However, contracts, court filings and formal submissions should be professionally reviewed before they are relied on for legal or official purposes. This includes checking terminology, omissions, names, figures, clause references, confidentiality and any certification requirements.
However, not every legal translation requires certification. It becomes relevant when the receiving authority, court, procedure or institution requires a certified version.
If certification is the main purpose of your request, use Shamil’s dedicated Certified Translation Services in Saudi Arabia page for broader guidance.
Translation changes the language. Certification confirms the translation in the required form. Notarization is a separate notarial procedure. Attestation or legalization authenticates documents for particular official or cross-border uses.
That depends on the receiving authority and purpose. Where a licensed or certified translation is required, a self-prepared translation may not satisfy that requirement.
First, we establish the document requirements before translation begins. This allows us to confirm the applicable price, turnaround, certification requirements and delivery format.
Upload or send a clear copy of every relevant page, specify the source and target language, and tell us where or how the translation will be used.
Next, we review the scope, complexity, formatting and requirements, then confirm the price and expected turnaround based on the actual file.
Once you approve the scope, quotation and requirements, we confirm the order and proceed with the translation according to the agreed requirements.
During translation, our linguists handle legal terminology, names, numbers and document structure in context, followed by review and quality checks.
Finally, we deliver the completed translation in the agreed format, with any applicable certification or supporting requirements completed as agreed.
Accuracy means more than fluent Arabic or English. Therefore, our review can also cover the factual and structural elements that determine whether the translated document remains consistent with the source.
| Element | What is checked |
|---|---|
| Names | Consistency throughout the document or bundle |
| Dates | Correct reproduction against the source |
| Numbers | Amounts, case numbers and references |
| Currency | Currency codes and monetary figures |
| Defined terms | Consistent equivalents |
| Clauses | Numbering and hierarchy |
| Cross-references | Internal references to other provisions |
| Annexes & schedules | Relationship to the principal document |
| Exhibits | Labels, numbers and references |
| Stamps & signatures | Visible elements appropriately indicated |
| Completeness | Source content accounted for |
| Formatting | Document structure checked before delivery |
Corporate matters often involve several related documents rather than one isolated file: Articles of Association, board and shareholder resolutions, commercial records, transaction documents, policies, due-diligence materials and legal correspondence.
For larger projects, send the available files together and identify priority documents, filing or transaction deadlines, existing bilingual references, preferred terminology and any previous translations that should be followed.
Names, defined terms and repeated corporate terminology should be identified and kept consistent across the project. Existing official company names or established bilingual forms should be used where reliable references are available.
Useful reference material: passports or IDs for names, commercial registrations for company names, existing bilingual contracts, previous approved translations and client terminology lists.
A power of attorney can contain a dense list of powers and restrictions. The translation should accurately reflect the principal, attorney or agent, identification details, authority granted, limitations, dates and references appearing in the source.
Notarial stamps, authentication markings and other visible formal elements also need appropriate treatment.
Arbitration matters can generate large collections of interconnected documents: claims, responses, witness statements, expert reports, contracts, correspondence, exhibits and awards.
Terminology needs to remain stable where the same parties, agreements, contractual definitions and disputed events appear repeatedly across the bundle.
The required language depends on the arbitration and tribunal directions. Under the SCCA 2023 Arbitration Rules, a tribunal may require documents submitted in their original language to be accompanied by translations into the language or languages of the arbitration. Provide the required language and any procedural instructions when sending the project.
Arabic–English legal translation requires careful handling of legal terminology, names, government entities, defined terms and document structure. The translation should remain consistent and traceable to the source, particularly where the document contains repeated terms, cross-references or formal legal wording.
For Saudi legal, corporate and court documents required in English. Particular care is needed with names, government entities, legal titles, dates and transliteration.
For foreign contracts, corporate files and legal documents required in Arabic. Defined terms, cross-references and drafting structure need to remain traceable.
Legal documents may contain personal information, financial information, confidential commercial terms or material connected with a dispute.
For sensitive legal, corporate or litigation matters, clients can inform our Riyadh team of any specific confidentiality, NDA or document-handling requirements before the project begins.
We treat legal documents as sensitive project material and handle them according to the agreed project requirements. If your organisation has specific confidentiality, NDA or access-control requirements, please tell us before sending or confirming the project.
The quotation can depend on the language pair, volume, complexity, source-file quality, formatting, urgency, certification requirements and whether several related documents need to be handled together. Reviewing the actual files produces a more meaningful quotation than estimating from the document title alone.
Turnaround depends on document length, complexity, number of files, formatting requirements, review needs and certification. Large litigation bundles or interconnected agreements may require additional coordination. If you have a court, transaction or submission deadline, provide the exact deadline when sending the files.

No. Clients can send documents online for review, quotation and project coordination. An office visit can be arranged when necessary, but it is not required simply to obtain a quote.
Compare the actual workflow and evidence rather than relying on broad claims such as “accepted everywhere” or “100% accurate.”
